A small, independent site about getting your gear to the lake — built around the one question every product listing avoids: will it fit my car?
Why this site exists
Roof & Route started with a specific, ordinary frustration: the trunk is full, the trip is tomorrow, and nothing online tells you whether the thing you are about to buy actually fits your car.
Product listings are excellent at dimensions and silent on consequences. They will tell you a cargo box is eighteen cubic feet. They will not tell you that your vehicle’s published roof limit is 150 lb including the bars and the box, that your rails are the flush kind and need a different foot pack, or that the box will cost you somewhere between thirteen and nineteen percent of your fuel economy at highway speed.
So this site is organized around fitment first and products second. We cover 12 vehicles with a published-data fitment block each, and 52 guides, roundups and comparisons across six product categories.
Who writes it
Everything here is written by Janet H.. Janet H. is the hands-on owner behind Janet Media Group. She started Roof & Route after one too many trips where the gear didn't fit the car.
That is the whole of what we claim. We are not a testing lab, we do not have a fleet of press vehicles, and we are not going to invent credentials we do not hold. What we have instead is a specific, verifiable kind of work: reading manufacturer documentation carefully and publishing what it actually says, including the parts where it says nothing.
What we do, and what we don’t
We do compare published manufacturer specifications, cross-check fitment against manufacturer fit guides and owner’s manuals, cite every factual claim to a named source, and state a last-reviewed date on every page.
We do not physically test every product we recommend. When we haven’t used something, we say so. You will not find a sentence on this site that begins “in our testing” or “after 500 miles,” because that would not be true.
We also do not publish prices, invent star ratings, or run a testimonials section. Prices change daily, so every link goes to the current price on Amazon. Ratings we did not produce are not ours to publish. And we have no customer reviews, so there is no reviews section — a clean page beats a fabricated one.
