Plain English, no small print: how this site earns, and what that does and does not change about what you read here.

The short version

Roof & Route earns affiliate commission. If you buy something through a link on this site, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. It never costs you more, and it never decides what we recommend.

Amazon Associates

Roof & Route is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We earn commission on qualifying purchases.

Amazon is currently the only retailer we earn commission from. Our outbound product links carry the Associates tracking ID jmg-roofroute-20, which is how Amazon attributes a purchase to this site.

Product links on this site pass through a resolver on our own domain at /go/ before sending you to the retailer. That lets us keep every outbound destination in one configuration file, so a link can be corrected or updated in one place rather than across dozens of pages. It adds a fraction of a second and it does not change where you end up.

Every earning link carries rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" in its markup, which is how search engines are told the link is commercial. Every buy button also carries a visible #ad label and a link back to this page.

The /go/ resolver is excluded from our sitemap, blocked in robots.txt for every crawler, and served with a noindex header.

Editorial independence

Commission rates vary between products and between retailers. Ours do not influence anything, and here is specifically what that means:

  • Ranking order is buyer-first. Where a cheaper product is the better answer, it ranks above a more expensive one. Several of our roundups put a budget product above a premium one for exactly this reason.
  • We say when not to buy. Several pages here recommend the cheaper category, the second-hand option, or doing nothing at all — none of which earns us anything.
  • No paid placements. No brand has paid to appear on this site, and no brand has been given approval over anything written about it.
  • No free product. We do not receive products from manufacturers, which is part of why we do not claim to have tested them.

Prices

We do not publish prices, because prices change daily and a number written into a page decays immediately. Every product link goes to the live price on Amazon so you see today’s figure rather than ours. Where you see “check price on Amazon,” that is what it means.

Prices, availability and specifications on the retailer’s site are set by the retailer and can change at any time. Anything shown on this site should be confirmed on the retailer’s page before you buy.

Product images

Product photographs on this site are representative stock images, labeled as such on every product card. They are not photographs of the specific unit, and no image here implies we own, have used, or have photographed a product.

FTC compliance

This disclosure exists to comply with the United States Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides. In addition to this page, a disclosure appears above the first affiliate link on every page that carries one, and a statement appears in the footer of every page on the site.
