What Fits a Tesla Model Y: Roof Racks, Cargo Boxes and Bike Carriers
A Model Y has no roof rails, a glass roof, and a published limit that counts the rack against your allowance. It also loses range to drag faster than a combustion car loses mpg.

The Model Y is the vehicle on this list where the aerodynamic penalty matters most. A combustion car with a loaded box burns more fuel; an electric car with a loaded box loses range, and range is the thing Model Y owners plan trips around. A box that costs you a fifth of your range changes where you stop.
Mounting is the other difference. There are no roof rails. The glass panel is not a mounting surface. Racks for a Model Y attach through the door frames, which is a perfectly sound engineering approach and also means the fit kit is not optional or interchangeable.
Tesla's own owner's manual is refreshingly explicit about the arithmetic: the maximum roof load is the weight of the roof rack plus the accessory racks plus the load. The rack counts against you, which is exactly the detail most rack listings leave out.

The wording matters. Tesla states the rack itself counts toward the 165 lb, so a 20 lb rack and a 45 lb box leave you 100 lb of cargo, not 165.

Model Y cautions
- The powered rear hatch opens tall. Confirm clearance with a hitch-mounted carrier or bike rack fitted and the hatch fully open.
- Roof loads on a Model Y are a range question first and a weight question second. Plan charging stops for the loaded car, not the empty one.
