What Fits a Toyota RAV4: Roof Racks, Cargo Boxes and Bike Carriers
The RAV4 is the most-sold vehicle on this list and the one where roof rail fitment varies most by trim — two RAV4s of the same model year can need completely different rack kits.

RAV4 fitment is a trim question, not a model-year question. Within a single year, a base trim may have a bare roof, a mid trim raised rails, and a higher trim flush rails — three different rack kits for what the badge says is the same car.
That is the single most common ordering mistake on this vehicle. A fit guide will not save you if you tell it the wrong rail type, so the first job on this page is identifying which roof you actually have.
The RAV4's published roof load figure is also genuinely disputed. A 165 lb number is repeated almost everywhere; the owner's manual is quoted as giving 176.4 lb (80 kg) dynamic. We have not been able to reconcile those against a single Toyota document, and we are not going to average them for you.

We could not reconcile these two figures against a single Toyota document, so we are publishing the disagreement rather than picking one. Work to the lower number and check your own manual — the difference is about 11 lb, which is less than most people's margin of error when packing anyway.

RAV4 cautions
- The powered rear hatch on higher trims opens tall and fast; check its path against a hitch carrier before you trust it.
- RAV4 trims with the two-tone roof treatment still use standard rail kits — the paint is not a fitment factor, but photographs online can make the rail type hard to judge.
- Cargo boxes mounted too far forward on a RAV4 can enter the driver's upward field of view; slide back until the front lip is behind the windshield header.
