Safety — read this one

Carrying cargo on a vehicle is a safety-critical activity. A load that comes loose at highway speed can kill somebody.

Everything on this site is general information, not instructions for your specific vehicle, your specific carrier or your specific load. Where our guidance and a manufacturer’s instructions differ, follow the manufacturer.

• Your vehicle’s owner’s manual governs. Roof load limits, hitch ratings and payload figures come from your manufacturer, not from us. Our fitment pages tell you what we found and where we found it, and mark anything we could not verify as unverified.
• Your carrier’s instructions govern. Fitting procedure, torque figures, speed recommendations and weight limits come with the product.
• Check your work. Confirm every fastener and every strap before you drive, and re-check after the first twenty minutes.
• Follow the law where you are. Load overhang, license plate and light visibility and vehicle length rules vary by state.

If you are not confident a load is secure, do not drive. Get it checked by someone who is.
