What Fits a Ford Bronco: Roof Racks, Cargo Carriers and Kayak Mounts
Ford is unusually clear about the Bronco's roof: load goes on crossbars attached to the side rails, never on the roof panel. That one sentence rules out half the products people ask about.

The Bronco's owner's manual says something most manuals leave implicit: the roof panel is not designed to carry a load directly. Cargo goes on crossbars affixed to the roof rack side rails, and nowhere else.
That is a genuinely useful rule because it immediately disqualifies a whole product category — the soft cargo bags that strap through the door frames and sit on the roof surface. On a Bronco with a removable top, those are not a shortcut; they are loading a panel that Ford says should not be loaded.
Ford also publishes both numbers, which is rarer than it should be: 110 lb dynamic and 450 lb static, evenly distributed. The static figure is the one roof-top tent buyers want.

Bronco cautions
- The swing-out rear gate and the spare tire push a hitch carrier further back than on a conventional SUV; check the gate's swing path with the carrier fitted.
- Removing the top takes roof-mounted accessories with it. If you take the top off in summer, plan the rack around that.
- The 450 lb static figure is for an evenly distributed load. A roof-top tent with two occupants concentrated in the middle is not an evenly distributed load.
